ROUND 1
1. Cincinnati Bengals- Joe Burrow QB, LSU
This one should be simple. The contract negotiations should already be taking place. The Bengals need to start their new era with a star QB, and they don’t get better than Burrow. Literally they don’t get better. The only thing that would make him a better QB prospect is Herbert’s arm but Burrow’s arm isn’t nothing to scoff at. He is quite simply the best QB I’ve ever scouted. I would be shocked if he does not make one all pro team in his career barring injury.
2. Washington Redskins- Chase Young EDGE, OSU
Another easy selection to make. Young is in the mold of these generational pass rushers that seem to come into the league every two years. He’s powerful, huge and surprisingly adept at converting his god given speed to power. This should be easy.
3. Detroit Lions- Jeffery Okudah- OSU
As the common vernacular goes, the draft really starts at the no.3 overall pick. I fully expect the Lions to have this player at the end of draft night, just not at this pick. As for Okudah you get a clean prospect with huge upside. He does everything well. He’s sticky, great at using his hips to turn direction, and most importantly regarding him as a prospect: he’s long and uses his length well. He really is a special CB prospect.
4. NY Giants- Mekhi Becton OT- Louisville
If you listen to Giants fans and the media, they all want Isaiah Simmons in New York. That would be a mistake in my opinion. Not due to the player but due to the circumstances. They have committed to their franchise QB and in a draft full of great O Lineman at the top of the board, the Giants should exercise this opportunity to have their pick of the litter. Mekhi Becton is for my money the best prospect. He is just HUGE. There's no way around it. If he gets his hands on you forget it, it’s over. He easily has the best ceiling of the prospects but his size could be his biggest worry towards his longevity.
5. Miami Dolphins- Tua Tagovailoa QB- Alabama
Let me make something clear, if I were the Miami Dolphins this is not the QB I would pick, even when healthy. I believe Herbert is a much better QB prospect. However, the Dolphins have spent the year tanking for Tua and the Dolphins fans are convinced that Tua is the answer and I would not throw Herbert, as much as I like him, into a situation where the fans don’t want him. I think Trubitsky would have failed wherever but I think Bears fans hating him from day 1 didn’t help much. Give the fans what they want.
6. LA Chargers- Justin Herbert QB- Oregon
Justin Herbert is my No.2 QB and I think keeping him on the west coast is ideal for him. He is on a team with great weapons and should ideally sit a year. Which is good because it gives the Chargers a year to make the offensive line better than it is for Herbert when he is ready to take over the starting job.
7. Carolina Panthers- Isaiah Simmons LB, Clemson
It’s hard to predict where the Panthers will go but Im think they’ll want to get their next Luke Kuechly on their team ASAP. Simmons is truly a special Linebacker. He’s a freak among freaks in that way. He obviously is fast but a willing tackler as well. What he is great at doing is seeing a ball carrier and committing his body to a larger tackle and a near perfect angle. I would like to see a team do a bubble screen with Simmons out there because that sh** will be snuffed quickly. The Panthers could go a lot of ways but I think that this will ultimately be the best course of action.
8. Arizona Cardinals- Jedrick Wills Jr. OT, Alabama
Similar to the Giants the Cardinals need to protect Kyler Murray. Why not get probably the most solid Tackle prospect in this class. The man is a day one stud in the NFL. He has all the polish possible: his footwork is superb, his arm length is great, his use of hands is silky smoothe. He is just an all around great Tackle prospect for the Cards.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars- Derrick Brown DT, Auburn
The Jaguars are in a rebuilding mode and should quite simply take whichever blue chip prospect on defense falls in their lap. Here it is Derrick Brown. People don’t look like him and move like him every day. He truly is one of those once in every 5 years kinda DTs. He’s up there with the Ed Olivers and Quinnen Williams of the world and actually might be better. I love this guy and the Jags should be excited to get him.
10. Cleveland Browns-Andrew Thomas OT, Georgia
The Browns should be taking an offensive tackle at this spot no matter what. While I have Tristain Wirfs as a better player on my board, I think Thomas is more surefirely a tackle in the NFL or at least a LT. Wirfs may be more suited to be a Guard in the NFL and the Browns need a bad boy at Tackle like Thomas is. The man is just a straight mauler on the field. He can manage all the heavy duty work from EDGE rushers and is not phased by power.
11. NY Jets-Jerry Jeudy WR, Alabama
The Jets should dance and shout when they have their pick of the litter at WR but one for me shines above the rest. Jeudy is special in my eyes. He’s quick, he can fly, he is great with the ball in his hands, but most importantly he is simply the best route runner I’ve ever seen out of college. He is rarely held in check and it is crazy the amount of separation that you see from him. The Jets need to get Darnold a no.1 option and Jeudy could be the guy to change the Jet’s fortune.
12. Oakland Raiders- Henry Ruggs III WR, Alabama
Much like the Jets the Raiders need their No.1 option. Henry Ruggs is simply that guy and more importantly a classic Gruden guy. He is a special athlete. He may be the most athletically gifted player in this class outside Young. I’ve never seen so many people upset about a 4.29 40 but everyone knows that Ruggs is that special. He moves so fluidly and I would be scared If he was ever caught in open space. He truly is a special receiver prospect and should be a pro bowler very soon.
13. San Francisco 49ers (via IND)- CJ Henderson CB, Florida
The 49ers need to trade down from one of their 2 firsts or else those are their only two picks until the 5th round. However when a guy like CJ, who is up there with the Okudah’s of the world, simply cannot pass on him. The man probably has the best man to man instincts in the class and is incredibly quick on the ball when it is in the air. Watch the LSU game against Chase where he essentially shut him down and knocked down ball after ball that was thrown in single coverage. He is one of my favorites in the whole class and the 49ers who are strapped for CB help next to Sherman should jump at the opportunity.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Tristan Wirfs OT, Iowa
The Bucs are contending for THISyear. All the draft picks should be under the assumption that it is super bowl or bust. The Bucs need to protect Brady if he is to use his weapons optimally. Wirfs is a solid player wherever he is used on the line. He could be an all world guard but if the Bucs needed him to play tackle right away he could serviceably do it.
15. Denver Broncos- Ceedee Lamb WR, Oklahoma
The Broncos are trying to get a receiver in the first round. Why not? They really only have two positions of needs and the OT position is dried up at this point. Getting a guy like Ceedee Lamb would be perfect playing opposite Cortland Sutton. You get a guy here who is a reliable catch similar to Sutton but can be special with the ball in his hands. He doesn’t stretch the field with his speed but he is scary in single coverage. His hands are special and he is probably the best in this class at making people miss in space. He would be a perfect screen and slant option for Drew Lock as this team moves into its new phase.
16. Atlanta Falcons-K’Lavon Chaisson EDGE, LSU
Signing Dante Fowler does not fix the pass rush. I understand Tak McKinnley was a first round pick but he just hasn’t lived up to expectations. K’Lavon is a special pass rusher with incredible athletic ability. For a guy his size, he is rarely bothered by larger lineman often blowing by them with his amazing physical tools himself. He is great at penetration and coverage and would honestly be a steal here at 16 for the falcons.
17. Dallas Cowboys- Xavier McKinney S, Alabama
The Cowboys are a team that is in need of secondary help all over now that Byron Jones is gone. It is plain to see that Jeff Heath is not simply not an elite Safety. The Cowboys need to contend quickly before the salary cap eats their team apart and getting their Earl Thomas-like center fielder is a way to make everyone's job on the defense all the more easier.
18. Miami Dolphins (via PIT)- Javon Kinlaw DL, South Carolina
The Dolphins here would be wise to take a tackle but it is simple, they cannot afford to pass on Kinlaw. This man is a top 7 player who falls by virtue of his position and the needs of other teams. Kinlaw here would be a true building block for the Dolphins defense. The man is just a huge person who has unusual power up front. I can only imagine what a center thinks when they are snapping the ball in front of him. He is so huge, so massive and so quick off the snap he is near impossible to stop.
19. Las Vegas Raiders (via CHI)- Patrick Queen LB, LSU
The Raiders have needed a true Linebacker for their defense for a while now. I think when Gruden looks at Patrick Queen and can see a lot of Derrick Brooks in him. He is a special athlete with amazing pass coverage ability. Even more so he is incredibly quick to the point of attack which is incredible. For a team that has a great front line, getting a guy who can really patrol the middle of the field is something Gruden has to look for in this draft.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars (via LAR)- AJ Epenesa EDGE, Iowa
The Jags are in rebuilding mode and on top of getting an uber powerful DT why not get the same at the EDGE position. True he isn't this Von Miller, Clowney kinda pass rusher where he gets around the OT regularly but his power is special. He is not the fastest man on the field but he is a true EDGE-setter. He uses his force and body to break the protection schemes and rush the QB through sheer force. He reminds me a lot of Cam Jordan in that way. The Jags would be lucky to have him.
21. Philadelphia Eagles- Justin Jefferson WR, LSU
The Eagles are missing a real no.1 receiver. Alshon clearly wants out of Phili that much is obvious which leaves their best options as….. Desean Jackson who played 3 games last year and 2 really good TEs. I wonder if Jordan Matthews will inexplicably come back again. But seriously, getting a Justin Jefferson for Wentz opposite Desean and the TEs could be ideal. Jefferson has elite ability to not only get open but to track the ball. He is fluid in his running and spectacular in his catching. His 6’3” frame is also useful because his true strength is getting separation from jump balls. He reminds me a lot of Michael Thomas and the Eagles should snag him up as soon as possible.
22. Minnesota Vikings (via BUF)- Austin Jackson OT, USC
The Vikings need to improve ion the O LIne. It should be that simple. Austin Jackson is that classic prototype for the position. He’s a big 6’7” project at the position who at his worst could be thrown out there at RT and use his size to clear space. MY only real worry is that he is raw and too reliant on his size that won’t be the same advantage outside of the PAC-12 let alone the NFL. However, the Vikings have shown a willingness to take these risks similar to their selection of Brian O’Neil.
23. New England Patriots- Jordan Love QB, Utah State
I don’t believe that he will be picked here. Some team will try to trade up for him from what I can tell. The Patriots might want to move into the future of the NFL with an athletic specimen at QB. With drafting him they can start Stidham like they want to and bench Love until he is ready. They have been destroyed by the QBs that can extend plays and make off schedule throws. Maybe Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick will want to use Love’s talent to elevate their offense to a new level.
24. New Orleans Saints-Kenneth Murray LB, Oklahoma
The Saints are one of those hole-less teams in the NFL at all positions except LB. they are missing a real tackler at LB. Anzalone is a great No.2 and is good in pass coverage, but Murray is special with his nose for the football. HE is a gifted and willing tackler which is something the Saints really need. Some may want them to trade up for Love but I don’t get it. They are looking for a Super Bowl this year and even more so, I think Sean Payton really loves Taysom Hill.
25. Minnesota Vikings- Kristian Fulton CB, LSU
After what feels like years and years of drafting CBs in the first two rounds, the Vikings are gonna be at it again. They lost: Trae Wayans, McKenzie Alexander and Xavier Rhodes in one offseason and are bringing in an injured Mike Hughes as their new No.1. They need a partner for him and Fulton is a good piece. He is great man to man on a receiver and should be great in the strictly man to man scheme that the Vikings like to run.
26. Miami Dolphins (via HOU)- Josh Jones OT, Houston
The Miami Dolphins got their steal with Kinlaw but should really pick some protection for their injury prone franchise QB. Getting Josh Jones who is exclusively great at Pass Blocking might be ideal for the Dolphins. It honestly is just that simple.
27. Seattle Seahawks- Yetur Gross Matos EDGE, PSU
The Seahawks have been looking for a replacement for Michael Bennett for a while and Jadeveon Clowney seems less and less likely to return. LJ Collier may turn out to be one of the biggest draft busts of all time so getting a guy who looks the part like Matos is a great call for the Seahawks. What is even more ideal is that Matos doesn’t have to shoulder the weight of the defense and can focus on destroying his assignment on the line.
28. Baltimore Ravens- Cesar Ruiz IOL, Michigan
The Ravens need to improve on the interior. Especially with the retirement of Marshal Yanda. Watching Ruiz he is classic Ravens. He is huge and uses his power well. It is kind of that simple. He could be an all pro at all the interior line positions and the Ravens need big guys with his athleticism to move with the unique power run game that the Ravens run.
29. Tennessee Titans- Zach Baun LB, Wisconsin
The Titans are missing a player like Baun on defense. He is a true swiss army knife and can really do anything at the LB position. He reminds me of Kyle Van Noy but I think that Mike Vrabel will see a lot of himself in Baun. He can play all over the field and would be a great compliment to Harold Landry and Rashan Evans at LB.
30. Green Bay Packers- Isaiah Wilson OT, Georgia
This was hard because the Packers should invest in offense a lot this draft. It was hard to pass on a pass catcher but I think the Packers miss Bryan Bulaga on the OLine more than people understand. Their Line is more and more becoming Bakthiari and everyone else. Wilson is a great compliment because he can just be the big boy on the other side that can sure up the other side of the Packers offense and be a real road grater for the running game.
31. San Francisco 49ers-KJ Hamler WR, PSU
The Niners will likely trade this pick but if they keep it I think Kyle Shannahan will want to get his burner. He wants to get the guy who takes the top off the defense and can run by the whole defense. Hamler is that guy. He is a lot like Hollywood Brown last year where he is just blowing by opposing CBs. Look at the Michigan game if you want a real understanding of what he can do.
32. Kansas City Chiefs- AJ Terrell CB, Clemson
The Chiefs are a team that has a lot of needs and they lost one of their best players in Kendall Fuller. AJ Terrell has the best shot of the remaining CBs to come in and make an immediate impact on the defense for a team trying to win another Super Bowl. AJ Terell has incredible man to man skills and is great at playing the receiver’s movements. He can be a real solid CB for the Chiefs and that 5th year option on a CB is pretty valuable to a team with their window looking like it looks.
